Tips for Skincare During “That Time of the Month”

Dry, dull skin and acne are considered the top problems for girls during their “red light” days. In addition, your skin will be very sensitive during this period. The skincare tips specifically for the menstrual cycle will help you always have a bright, acne-free skin during “those days”.

1. Cleanse your skin before your “red light” days

About 5-10 days before your “red light” period, you should enhance your skincare and cleansing routine. Start a few weeks before your “red light” days by cleansing your skin with a deep-cleansing mask, which helps eliminate excess substances in the pores. You can easily buy a peel-off mask (deep cleansing type) from cosmetic stores to keep your skin clean and clear.

2. Maintain skin hygiene during your “red light” days

During the “red light” period, you should avoid using too many skincare products, especially products that eliminate keratin for the skin. Experts recommend using a serum cleanser that provides water to the skin and only wash your face twice a day to protect your skin.

3. Moisturize your skin

Skin is very sensitive during the menstrual cycle. Therefore, girls should limit their daily skincare routine to let the skin “breathe”. Just choose a few nourishing masks or mild moisturizers that provide water, which is enough for a healthy skin during “those days”. You can also use some seaweed-based products to stimulate and support skin cell regeneration.

4. Drink enough water

Skin tends to become dry during the menstrual period due to the loss of a large amount of water. Therefore, you need to replenish the water in your body. Besides drinking purified water, you can also use fruit water to both provide enough water for your body and increase the vitamin content.

5. Sun protection and minimal use of cosmetics

During “sensitive” days, the increasing sebum production not only blocks the pores but also leads to more blackheads. Especially in the summer, you need to protect your skin from UV rays to prevent dark spots, freckles, or melasma from appearing.

6. Nutrition

Attention to your diet: You should avoid eating spicy or cold foods and foods rich in oil for cooking, such as fried foods. Sour foods are also not good for blood circulation, so you should avoid sour foods during this period. Avoid consuming too much salty food to prevent facial swelling, which can occur at any time. Eat more foods that contain magnesium and B vitamins to improve your body’s metabolism.

7. Get enough sleep

Sleep is very important for the beauty of your skin. Lack of sleep is the cause of dark circles and acne formation, and it is the culprit for making the complexion darker. Therefore, you should develop a habit of sleeping at the right time, avoid staying up too late which can disrupt your biological clock, which is not good for your skin and health.

8. Treat acne

Sensitive skin during the “red light” period also requires appropriate treatment methods. Aloe vera masks are considered the best for this stage.

Extract 1 aloe leaf, take the gel and apply it evenly on your face, then rinse your face after it’s dry. Alternatively, you can use aloe vera juice to drink every day.

Or, use 100g of rinsed aloe leaves, cut them into small pieces, put them into a pot, and pour 500ml of water into the pot. Bring it to a boil and then simmer for 15 minutes. After that, mix the cooked water with 10g of honey. Drink this mixture combined with applying aloe vera leaves on your face once a day.
