How to Prevent Smartphone Tracking?
Data device security has always been a concern for smartphone users. However, many people are not really familiar with device security processes, preventing electrical tracking. In this article, we will explore ways to prevent tracking on Android, iPhone devices.
Limit the use of device location feature
Choosing to use the GPS location feature on a smartphone is a familiar trick for users nowadays. With this feature, we can easily know our current location as well as use it for various purposes. However, abusing and using this device location feature will unintentionally make your device less secure and easily tracked by other applications.
For iPhone devices
Step 1: You access Settings from the app menu and then select the General option.
Here, you search for and select the Restrictions option.
Step 2: The system will ask you to enter the Restriction password to confirm, then we search for and select the Location Services function as below.
Step 3: Here you can select Turn Off Location Services or choose the applications that are using the device’s location service and select No to turn it off.
For Android devices
You access Settings, then search for and select the Location option (Privacy and Safety Location).
Here you can choose to turn off the location service or select the Mode to choose the accuracy mode, device location detection method to be safer.
Do not root or jailbreak the device
Rooting an Android device or jailbreaking an iPhone brings along some unique experiences, but it also comes with many risks. A rooted or jailbroken device is very unstable and unsafe, and can easily be installed with unauthorized tracking applications.
However, for savvy users, they can jailbreak or root their devices to install location-spoofing apps that help them “pretend” to be in one place while they are actually elsewhere.
Fighting phone tracking through app permissions
Every time we install new apps on Android or iPhone devices, the system usually sends notifications asking for confirmation for installation and device settings. For apps that do not require GPS, phone calls, text messages but request to use them, it is advisable to delete them and not confirm the app’s permissions.
Never share personal accounts
Many people are careless in managing their accounts on smartphones and tablets. This is a hard fact to change. In Vietnam, users still share their Apple ID with phone stores. Some people “innocently” provide their Apple ID, iCloud account to their partners without realizing that they are being tracked through the Find My iPhone feature.
Not only on iPhone, Android users should not be complacent with their accounts either. Gmail is the most valuable asset on Android devices because it stores contacts, emails, notes… and is the key to logging into photo storage services. If someone knows your Gmail and password, they can also track your location if you have enabled the device tracking feature when it is lost.
In addition to keeping personal accounts secure, users need to limit the use of photo streaming to other devices, such as an iPhone that can automatically send newly taken photos to the photo gallery on an iPad. An Android smartphone that syncs photos to Google Photos and someone knows the login password for this service. It is both useful and a double-edged sword.
Check the list of apps again
As mentioned above, unfamiliar apps on a device are one of the factors that make your device being tracked, so to prevent tracking on your phone, you need to check if there are any unfamiliar apps of unknown origin exist on your device.
After that, you should uninstall these doubtful apps from your device. There are many apps infected with malware that we are not aware of whether they are safe or not, so uninstalling and deleting them is a necessary step.
Determining location by phone number
Currently, many people are concerned about being easily tracked, their location being determined through their phone numbers. However, it is not possible to determine a location through a phone number. Determining location through a phone number requires permission from the network provider. This will make users lose their personal privacy. Therefore, you can be completely assured that you don’t have to worry about this issue anymore.
So we have just explored ways to prevent phone tracking, prevent location tracking. I hope through this article, you have understood the steps to take and what to do to prevent tracking on your Android, iPhone phones.
